Brick Pavers

Paver Patios & Pool Decks

A pool deck has a harder job than any other paver surface on the property. It gets splashed constantly, walked on barefoot in ninety-degree heat, and it has to move water away from both the pool shell and the house.

We build pool decks and patios that stay cool enough to walk on, drain in the right direction, and can be lifted and relaid in sections if the ground ever moves.

What's included

  • Demolition and haul-off of the existing deck or patio
  • Compacted limestone base over geotextile fabric
  • Bullnose or bevelled coping set to the pool edge
  • Drainage graded away from the house and the pool shell
  • Deck drains or channel drains where grade alone won't carry water
  • Expansion joints at the pool shell and any structure
  • Polymeric sand joints, compacted twice
  • Site cleanup and sod repair at the edges

Typical investment

{{TODO-OWNER: typical paver patio and pool deck price range}}

Quoted after a site visit — square footage, coping detail, drainage work and material set the number.

Warranty

{{TODO-OWNER: workmanship warranty term}}

Workmanship coverage in writing, plus the manufacturer's warranty on the pavers and coping.

How it works

From wet edge to finished deck

  1. 1Week 1

    Site visit & water check

We measure, check where water currently goes, and identify the low spots that puddle after rain.

  2. 2Week 1–2

    Design, samples & fixed quote

Paver and coping selected from physical samples, with a layout that works around returns, skimmers and steps.

  3. 31–3 weeks lead

    Materials & scheduling

We order the pavers and coping together so the dye lots match, and book around your rental calendar if you have one.

  4. 4Days 1–2

    Demolition & base

Old deck out, fabric down, base compacted in lifts and screeded to the fall we designed.

  5. 5Days 2–5

    Coping, field & cuts

Coping set first to the pool edge, then the field laid out from it so cuts land at the perimeter rather than the water.

  6. 6Final day

    Sand, compact & walkthrough

Joints sanded and compacted, deck washed down, and a walkthrough before you swim on it.

Materials & brands

Belgard, Tremron and Pavestone all make pool-rated lines with textured, lower-heat surfaces and matching bullnose coping. Colour matters more here than anywhere else on the property — pale, warm tones stay noticeably cooler underfoot than dark ones.

We only spec coping designed for pool edges. A field paver cut down to serve as coping is a chipped edge waiting to happen.

Pool deck surfaces compared

Heat underfoot

Brick pavers
Cool in pale, textured lines
Poured concrete
Hot, and hotter where it is sealed
Travertine
Coolest of the three

Repair after settling

Brick pavers
Lift and relay the affected area
Poured concrete
Cracks are permanent
Travertine
Lift and relay, but tiles chip

Salt tolerance

Brick pavers
High — cured denser than slab concrete
Poured concrete
Spalls over time
Travertine
High, but etches with pool chemicals

Slip resistance wet

Brick pavers
Good on textured finishes
Poured concrete
Depends entirely on the broom finish
Travertine
Good, can be slick when polished

Built for here

What pool decks are up against here

Water in two directions

Splash-out from the pool and runoff from the roof both land on the same surface. We grade the deck to carry water away from the house and the pool shell, and add channel drains where the fall alone cannot do it.

Sugar sand under the slab

Pool decks sit right where excavation spoil was backfilled, which is the least stable ground on the property. Base depth and lift compaction matter more here than on any other surface.

Rental turnover windows

Along 30A and in Miramar Beach most pool decks belong to rental homes. Tell us the gap between bookings and we will tell you honestly whether the job fits it or needs phasing.

Pool deck questions

Will a paver pool deck be too hot to walk on?

Not in a pale, textured pool-rated line. Colour drives surface temperature far more than material does, so we steer clients away from dark pavers for anywhere feet land barefoot.

Can you re-deck around an existing pool without touching the pool?

Yes. That is most of this work. We remove the old deck to the shell, rebuild the base, and set new coping against the existing pool edge.

How long is the pool out of use?

Usually the full install window of four to six days. The pool itself stays usable in most cases, but the deck around it is a work site and should be treated as one.

Do pavers around a saltwater pool hold up?

Yes. Concrete pavers handle both salt systems and chlorine better than poured slabs, which is why they dominate on this coast.

What about tree roots lifting the deck later?

We identify problem species at the site visit and either route around them or install a root barrier. Palms are rarely an issue; live oaks and ficus are.

Can the deck tie into a fire pit or outdoor kitchen?

Yes, and it is far cheaper to do it in one mobilisation. We build both — see our hardscapes page for kitchens, fire pits and fireplaces.

Rebuilding a pool deck or patio?

Send photos of the existing surface and your dates — we'll tell you what fits the window and what it costs.
