Crestview is the one town we serve that is not a coastal landscape at all. Up here, north of Eglin and out toward the Shoal River, the soil is clay-loam rather than sand — it holds water, it drains slowly, and it behaves nothing like the ground forty minutes south.
Everything gets specified differently as a result. Base preparation under pavers, irrigation scheduling, grass variety and drainage design all change, and a plan copied from a beach property will fail here.

What's different about working in Crestview
Clay-loam, not sand
This is the single biggest difference. Coastal sand sheds water and needs frequent short irrigation; Crestview's clay-loam holds it and needs much less. A schedule brought up from the coast will drown a lawn here.
Drainage is the whole job
Water that would vanish into sand on 30A sits on the surface here. Grading, swales and real outfalls matter far more inland, and low spots that hold after rain will not fix themselves.
Colder winters
Crestview runs meaningfully colder than the beach on a freeze night. Palm species that are safe on 30A can take real damage here, so cold hardiness drives selection more strongly than salt tolerance does.
Base preparation under pavers
Clay expands and contracts with moisture rather than washing away. That is a different failure mode from coastal base washout, and it needs a different base depth and drainage detail underneath.

Our shop and nursery are on Highway 331 in Freeport, about fifty minutes from Crestview. We cover Foxwood, Antioch, the Shoal River Ranch area and the surrounding streets.
Growing our own stock inland rather than beachside means the material is better matched to Crestview conditions than plants trucked over from the coast.

Do I water like people on the coast do?
No — considerably less. Crestview's clay-loam holds moisture where coastal sand drains it away in minutes. Copying a beach schedule is the fastest way to waterlog a lawn here.
Which grass works best in Crestview?
Celebration Bermuda on open, sunny lots with traffic; Palmetto St. Augustine where there is shade. Empire Zoysia works too, though its low water demand is less of an advantage on soil that already holds moisture.
Why does water sit in my yard after rain?
Clay content and nowhere for it to go. It is a grading and drainage problem, not a planting one, and it needs solving before anything new goes in the ground.
Will palms survive here?
Some will. Sabal palmetto, windmill and needle palms handle Crestview winters. Species that are marginal on the coast are genuinely risky this far inland, and we will say so before you buy one.
Do you come out this far?
Yes, Crestview is a regular service area. Sod, irrigation and driveways are the bulk of what we do here.
